SUMMARY:SAGES 2020 Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons - NEW DATE - Visit us at booth #526
DESCRIPTION:SAGES 2020 IS POSTPONED\nMarch 10\, 2020 by SAGES Webmaster \n\n\n\nDear SAGES Members and Meeting Attendees\, \nIn light of the recent concerns about COVID-19 and the growing number of travel bans placed on both international and domestic surgeons\, the SAGES executive leadership and Board of Governors has elected to delay the SAGES annual meeting until August 12-15\, 2020. This decision was NOT made lightly but was the only viable option in good conscience we could make to preserve the health and safety of our surgeon attendees and patients. \nWe are\, however\, still planning to hold our committee and board meetings as scheduled March 31 and April 1\, but these meetings will be held virtually. If you are on a SAGES committee or our Board\, stay tuned for login details and please continue to hold those same time slots for your participation. \nIf you have an abstract accepted for presentation\, we realize you have worked hard on your research and do not wish to delay disseminating the information for another four months. Therefore\, we will keep the manuscript deadline of April 4 and allow submission to Surgical Endoscopy and publication prior to the 2020 annual meeting. \nFor the move to August\, there will be some changes to the meeting. Due to availability\, the main event and sing-off will still be at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame\, but it will now be a kickoff event on Tuesday\, August 11. This will be a great way to welcome back our colleagues in the spirit of SAGES. \nThe meeting hotels and convention center plans are otherwise unchanged. \nSpecific instructions will be sent to faculty\, presenters\, registrants and exhibitors later this week. Please wait for those messages\, as our staff have been inundated with individual calls and emails. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our members and attendees and thank you for your understanding. \nWe think August in Cleveland will be phenomenal and we look forward to seeing all of you then. Remember\, SAGES Rocks!!! \nThank you for your continued support. \nAurora Pryor\, MD\, MBA\, SAGES President\nMatthew Goldblatt\, MD\, SAGES 2020 Program Chair\nLeena Khaitan\, MD\, SAGES 2020 Program Chair\nSallie Matthews\, Executive Director \n\n  \n\nSAGES (The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons) was founded in 1981 to foster\, promote\, and support academic\, clinical and research endeavors in gastrointestinal endoscopic surgery. \nSAGES currently boasts more than 6\,000 general surgeon members from countries ranging the globe.\nSAGES annual meeting is oriented toward minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery.\nSAGES \n\nIs a Nominating Member of the American Board of Surgery\nHas a representative on the American College of Surgeons Board of Governors\nHolds a seat in the AMA House of Delegates\nEstablished the first endoscopic and laparoscopic standards of training and practice for surgeons and initiated the Framework for Post Residency Education and Training\nServes as a strong voice on several committees setting reimbursement and federal policies on health care\n\nSAGES is a leading force in both resident education and continuing medical education. Our meeting fosters these dual educational goals. Additionally\, we present courses at various institutions for residents and experienced surgeons throughout the year\, which feature the pre-eminent experts in the field of minimally invasive surgery.

SUMMARY:Digestive Disease Week® (DDW) has been cancelled
DESCRIPTION:Information updated March 18\, 2020: Digestive Disease Week® (DDW) is cancelled\n\n\n\n\n\nDDW 2020 and all associated events\, scheduled for May 2-5\, 2020\, in Chicago\, have been cancelled. \nWhile we are disappointed to miss the science\, education and networking that are hallmarks of DDW\, we must focus on the health and safety of our community. Thank you for your patience as we evaluated the status of DDW in light of the rapidly changing coronavirus pandemic. \nWe are exploring options for virtual education. For 50 years\, DDW has advanced our understanding of digestive disease and helped us improve patient care – 2020 should continue that tradition. We will keep in touch as plans for distance learning come together. \nCertainly\, this cancellation raises many questions. We have attempted to answer them in this FAQ and remain committed to keeping you informed of new details as they form. \nIf you have additional questions\, please submit a ticket to our help desk. This will help direct your question to the appropriate person and expedite a response. \nThank you for your patience. \n\n  \n\n\nDigestive Disease Week® is the largest International annual meeting in gastroenterology and hepatology. The upcoming Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2020 annual meeting will be held in May 2020\, in Chicago\, Illinois. DDW is the largest international gathering of physicians\, researchers and academics in the fields of gastroenterology\, hepatology\, endoscopy and gastrointestinal surgery. The meeting provides a venue for scientists and clinicians to attend sessions and learn from their colleagues and peers through special lectures and 5\,400 abstract-based poster and oral presentations. This science presented during DDW represents the latest discoveries on digestive health. Every year it attracts approximately 18\,000 physicians\, researchers and academics from around the world.

SUMMARY:New York Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy (NYSGE)
DESCRIPTION:Under the direction of expert faculty\, this course is designed to improve endoscopic practice through live case presentations\, video and hands-on demonstrations\, educational lectures including audience interaction and questions\, and hands-on training using animal tissue models. \nThe course goals are to help participants improve their ability to accurately diagnose and effectively treat the spectrum of gastrointestinal diseases and disorders\, enhance quality and safety in all practice settings\, recognize trends in interventional endoscopic and surgical procedures\, apply state-of-the-art technology in a cost-effective way\, embrace advances in healthcare delivery\, payment\, and information sharing; and to foster an evidence-based approach to endoscopic decision-making for commonly encountered and controversial problems in gastroenterology. \nGastrointestinal endoscopy continues to experience rapid expansion of knowledge and technological innovation\, both of which are impacting the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders. Additionally\, advances in therapeutic endoscopy are challenging or entirely replacing certain endoscopic techniques that previously were purely diagnostic. Gastroenterologists must understand and effectively apply current and emerging diagnostic and treatment options while maximizing quality and safety. In view of these developments\, the need for superior continuing education becomes increasingly important. This course will enable participants to attain and apply cutting-edge information and evolving technological innovations to elevate practice levels and enhance patient care and treatment outcomes.

SUMMARY:3rd Annual Advanced Procedures in Interventional Endoscopy (APIE)
DESCRIPTION:This is a unique and innovative 1 1/2 day master class and hands on workshop on advanced procedures in interventional endoscopy. Interventional endoscopy has traditionally included ercp and eus. However\, the field has now expanded to more than just ercp and diagnostic eus with the development of new advanced endoscopic techniques. We have therefore designed a unique course that will provide hands on learning and education in these advanced areas: \n\npoem\nesd\nanti-reflux endoscopy\nendoscopic suturing\ninterventional eus\nbariatric endoscopy\nadvanced resection platforms\n\nThis course will offer an intimate learning experience for a small number of attendees\, providing didactic lectures and ample hands on time for advanced endoscopic techniques beyond ercp and diagnostic eus. A specific focus of this program will be the next generation of endoscopic technology and devices\, as well as the cutting-edge techniques used by experts in the fields. There will be extensive discussion of endoscopic techniques\, devices\, and instruments through lectures\, videos\, and hands on stations.
